I have always loved dance music and wanted to learn how to create it. Then I saw the Beats by Girlz ad and went along to their intro session. I was made to feel welcome and included and now I'm making music all by myself!

Meet the directors

Florence Glen

Florence is the founder and main course leader for BBG UK. A Folkestone-based singer-songwriter with roots in folk and acoustic music, Florence is a passionate advocate for increasing access in music, working hard in the Folkestone scene to improve opportunities for young people, women and gender minorities. Florence's self-produced tracks have been featured on BBC Radio 6 Music and she continues to hone her craft and introduce more electronic elements into her music.

Tim smith

Tim (AKA Technical Finger) is the main producer and sound force behind Folkestone's Seaview Studio. He has released numerous tracks as a solo artist and has featured on BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra and other national radio stations. A regular on the nightclub DJ circuit, he is renowned for playing old skool Jungle and the hardest of Drum & Bass dancefloor shakers.

Rachel jones

Rachel was one of the students on the first BBG UK course back in 2021 and has since become a director and advocate for BBG UK. A local businesswoman, Rachel is highly involved in the fabric of the town and enjoys many hobbies from music-making to pottery to glass bead making!
